BRUSHED ALUM. STRAIGHT SHAFT FOR WHITES WATER DETECTORS
« on: April 28, 2012, 10:10:59 PM »

Here is the straight shafts I have built for the Whites Dual field and Beach Hunter ID/300...  It uses whites arm cuff..grip is adjustable to fit arm size...uses whites lower fiber rod..makes swinging the detector very easy..handles well in the surf.

That looks as good as the ones they sell.

Where do you get the aluminum tubing?

What did you use for the hand grip? It looks like a mountain bike handlebar extension.

Ordered tubing...hand grips are polished aluminium that can be found in bike shop..arm cuffs W/straps are Whites..lower rods are Whites parts..SS Spring clips that hold detector in place are Whites...Foam padding on grip is Whites part but can be found in other places like Med Suply store/bike shop.. The plastic shaft end caps can be found at any hardware store, mine are Whites parts. Over the years I have picked up alot of spare parts and got free stuff from Whites for stories  I sent in. I build shafts for Excals too..next week I am building one for a friend I'll post photo's...These shafts are as good as any I have seen..I take time to smooth out any rough spots deburr all holes and cut off spots...I use a tubing cutter for all cuts so they are all square and clean.

That's great to know. I'll bet ACE could get it.

Is there a trick to drilling the holes in exactly the right place?

You need to have whatever detector your building it for in hand to use as a templet..be very careful trace holes on to shaft...I only drill one side of the tube at a time, then flip the tube drill other ,then run drill through both....I would try it on some scrap pipe first if your unsure.

Thanks George, great tip.

The rod will be for a Dual Field.
